Creek’s Edge Newfoundland Breeding Philosophy
Breeding with Purpose: Our Commitment To Producing The Ultimate Newfoundland
At Creek’s Edge Newfoundlands, our breeding program is guided by an unwavering commitment to the health, temperament, and structure of every dog we produce. Each pairing is thoughtfully planned to preserve the breed’s natural strength, intelligence, and gentle spirit — producing Newfoundlands who embody the ideal balance of beauty, soundness, and heart. Our dogs excel as loving family companions, capable water rescue or therapy partners, and versatile dogs who thrive in a variety of homes and activities.
We are deeply passionate about the Newfoundland breed and dedicated to upholding the highest standards of care, health, and responsible breeding that these extraordinary dogs deserve.

Health Testing & Genetic Screening
The health and well-being of our Newfoundlands are our highest priorities. We follow comprehensive health testing protocols for all of our breeding dogs to ensure they are free from inherited diseases and physically sound to produce strong, healthy puppies.
Hip and Elbow Dysplasia Evaluation: All of our breeding Newfoundlands undergo OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) or PennHIP evaluations to ensure proper joint structure and soundness, helping to prevent issues common in large breeds.
Heart Screening: Because cardiac health is vital in Newfoundlands, all of our breeding dogs receive OFA-certified cardiac evaluations performed by a board-certified veterinary cardiologist to rule out conditions such as Subvalvular Aortic Stenosis (SAS).
Eye Examinations: Our dogs receive annual CAER (Companion Animal Eye Registry) exams by a veterinary ophthalmologist to screen for hereditary eye diseases that could impact vision or quality of life.
By adhering to these thorough testing protocols, Creek’s Edge Newfoundlands is committed to producing puppies with the best possible start in life — healthy, strong, and ready to bring years of love, loyalty, and joy to their families.
Nutrition and Early Development
We believe that proper nutrition is the foundation of lifelong health and vitality for both our mothers and their puppies. Our adult Newfoundlands and expectant females are fed a high-quality, balanced diet tailored to meet the nutritional demands of a large working breed.
Our puppies begin life on premium puppy food, and their growth is closely monitored to ensure they receive the right balance of nutrients for strong bones, healthy joints, and steady development. We work closely with our veterinarians to provide optimal nutrition throughout every stage of life, giving our Newfoundlands the best possible start toward becoming happy, thriving companions.
In addition to excellent nutrition, we emphasize early neurological stimulation to support cognitive, emotional, and physical development. Following a program inspired by the “Bio-Sensor” or Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) method, our puppies are gently handled and exposed to mild, structured exercises that strengthen their resilience, confidence, and adaptability. This early foundation promotes calm, well-balanced Newfoundlands ready to flourish as loyal family companions, therapy dogs, or working partners.
